The Freedom and Right to Read

Ever since I read the impassioned Freedom to Read statement authored by the American Library Association, it awakened a personal commitment and critical sense of responsibility within me. This was written some sixty years ago but reads fresh and vigorous; it is the librarian's rebel yell:
"Freedom itself is a dangerous way of life, but it is ours."
Bebel Platz by Michaela Simoncini, 2006

Doesn't that belong on the back of a YA novel? It is the last sentence in the Freedom to Read statement.

The photo above is a picture from an artwork on the Bebelplatz, a plaza where Nazis burned some 20,000 books on May 10th, 1933.  This piece by Micha Ullman features a glass plate displaying empty bookcases.
