Toddler Storytime: Bunnies

(I made the 'letter of the day' a B with a cotton tail and eyes to look more like a bunny.)

Welcome song:
I give out ribbons and bell shakers and then did the List of Dances by Jim Gill.

Action rhyme:
Open them shut them
Open, shut them.
Give a little clap.
Open, shut them
Put them in your lap.

Book 1: Oh So Tiny Bunny by David Kirk

Action rhyme: Little Bunny Foo Foo

Little Bunny Foo Foo,
Hopping thru the forest,
Scooping up the field mice and boppin' 'em on the head.
Down came the good fairy
And she said:
"Little Bunny Foo Foo, I don't want to see you
Scooping up the field mice and boppin' 'em on the head
I'll give you three chances,
And if you don't behave
I'll turn you into a goon!"
The next day:

And this repeats, until there are no more chances...

Little Bunny Foo Foo
Hopping thru the forest,
Scooping up the field mice and boppin' 'em on the head
Down came the good fairy
And she said:
"Little Bunny Foo Foo
I don't want to see you
Scooping up the field mice and boppin' 'em on the head.
I gave you three chances
And you didn't behave.
Now you're a goon!
POOF!!

Rhyming Dust Bunnies by Jan Thomas
Encourage the kids to rhyme with you.

We danced to the song Silly Dance Contest by Jim Gill

Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems

Action rhyme:
Here is the Beehive
Here is the beehive... but where are all the bees?
(hold up fist)

Hidden inside where nobody sees. (move other hand around fist)
Here they come buzzing out of the hive
One, two, three, four, five.(hold fingers up one at a time)
Bzzzzzzzz… all fly away!(wave fingers)

Other books I considered depending on the toddler age and the zeitgeist of the room:
Sno Rabbit, Spring Rabbit A book of Changing Seasons Il Sung Na
What does bunny see? by Maggie Smith
A Bunny is Funny by Harriet Ziefert
Wee little bunny by Lauren Thompson
Bunny and Me by Adele Aron Greenspun and Joanie Schwarz
What does bunny see? by Linda Sue Park Maggie Smith

Closing song:
Icky Sticky Bubble Gum
Icky, Sticky Bubble Gum
Icky, sticky, icky, sticky bubble gum
bubble gum, bubble gum.
Icky, sticky, icky, sticky bubble gum
stuck to my *head.
And I pull, and I pull,
and they’re off!
(Repeat with different parts of the body)
*toes; *knees;*ears; *nose

We usually close with 'stuck to my friend!' where you go around tagging the kids.
